this was a monterey peninsula quilters guild crayon challenge quilt. the challenge was to make a monochromatic quilt using a crayon color selected at random from a paper bag. my crayon color was apricot. i created the design using various filters in photoshop elements, printed it on silk and quilted and embellished it.

i discovered a cool way to make circles in photoshop elements, and created this quilt using the technique. the sonnet theme is the seasons. i chose some of my seasonal photos, spring daffodils in england, summer in idaho, fall in virginia and winter in quebec. the quilt won best of show at art quilt tahoe. printed on silk and quilted.

this is a "creating with pixels" book project. i like curves so i used photoshop elements to design with a partial yin yang shape which i thought would make an interesting pattern. blending with exclusion and luminosity created the complementary colors. i printed it on silk and quilted it.

i love playing with photoshop? elements, discovering new tools, and combining them to make digital art. when i realized that patterns could have transparent parts, i started creating stencil like patterns and tiling them. about the same time i discovered the magic of blending. this quilt applies the same techniques explained in my book �creating with pixels�, blending a stencil like pattern with one or more photos and/or filtered texture.

this is a "creating with pixels" book project. what could i design in photoshop elements with a diamond and several half square triangle patterns? i added hydrangea and fire-works photos, blending to create the interesting effects and colors. i printed it on silk and quilted it.

this was my 2012 monterey peninsula quilters guild challenge quilt. i started this design in a gloria loughman workshop. i layered fabrics horizontally on top of batting and backing and quilted the layered fabrics with collaged decorative yarns.

i used kaleidoscope kreater 3 software to create the kaleidoscope shapes. i painted silk panels, and photographed them. i combined the kaleidoscope shapes and the painted fabric images and printed them on silk. i pieced everything together and quilted and embellished it.

i created the right half of the quilt in a melody johnson class; collaging fused silk and cotton fabric. i took a photo of it, manipulated it in photoshop elements, and printed the left side and border on silk fabric, then pieced everything together and quilted it. the sashing and binding are my hand painted silk ribbon.

bubbles, 2008
bubbles is an abstract design contrasting brightly colored circles with graphic black and white stripes in the background.
i used elements halftone filters to create the stripes patterns and block background. circle frame cookie cutter shapes are arranged on top and colored with paint bucket patterns. the book includes instructions for making this quilt.

this quilt, a variation of the bubbles quilt block, combines various size blocks and adds more stripes. the border is an enlarged copy of the top.

floral beauty, 2008
i made a version of the "piecing with pixels" book california beauty quilt but in a more free-form way than the original. the spikes extend beyond arcs or are placed on top of the background, rather than imitating paper-pieced new york beauty arcs. i also created a border with filtered photos.

i cropped photos of my dog fifi and rotated them around an octagon shape in photoshop elements. i arranged them in combination with other pictures to create a themed quilt. "the piecing with pixels" book includes instructions for making this quilt.

i created the layered checker-board effects in photoshop elements with a pink and green flower photo and shapes. i copied and rotated the blocks and applied the glowing edges filter to change the colors. this is a �piecing with pixels� book variation. printed on silk.

several photos of ayers rock, australia are combined with digital stash created from the photos in a free form variation of the ocean roads quilt. this quilt uses techniques in the "piecing with pixels" book. it was included in a exhibit of quilts based on aborigine legends and exhibited at the aqs knoxville show.

i used the photoshop elements frame shape to create the grid, and replaced the numbers with pacific grove area photos.

i cut cookie cutter shapes out of four floral photographs i took in hawaii, then merged the blocks into columns, and stacked them on a leaf background. i printed the design on silk fabric, then free- motion quilted and beaded it.

i designed the quilt using photoshop elements. i used the extrude and shear filters on a cloud image, and changed the hue and saturation on four copies.

i combined, printed photos of the petrified forest in arizona with hand painted silk and cotton fabrics, and embellished with threads and ribbon. the brown trees are commercial fabric.

flowers and stars was the design for sandy hart and my article in the january 2008 issue of american quilter magazine. i applied photoshop elements filters to 3 photos (leaves, tree bark, and a flower). i created the blocks by layering shapes cut from this stash with the elements cookie cutter tool. the templates are available on our website.

i started this quilt in a cynthia corbin class at empty spools where i met sandy hart. i printed photographs i took at yellowstone on various silk and cotton fabrics. to create texture, i knitted with cotton fabric and silk ribbon. this quilt is included in the "innovative fabric imagery for quilts" book and was displayed at the houston quilt festival.

this quilt was juried into the pacific international quilt show in 2006. sheer fabric is layered over a machine pieced background and flowers are hand appliqued on top. it is machine quilted and embellished with beads.
